NSAID (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug)
Lee Chang-Keun

Abstract
NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are commonly used drugs for chronic pain and inflammation. As the population of old age become larger, the use of NSAIDs is increasing than ever before. Classical NSAIDs inhibit both Cox-1 and Cox2, which leads to anti-inflammatory effect, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular side effects. Therefore, Cox-2 specific inhibitors are developed. However, it caused the concern of cardiovascular safety. Gastrointestinal and cardiovascular risk factors should be considered when selecting NSAIDs. According to the risk, different drug and preventive strategy should be employed. Adding one NSAID to another must not be done because it causes serious side effect without adding analgesic or inflammatory effect. It is the best way to use lower dosage of NSAIDs as possible with short-term.
